Our Team
Dr. Michael Garrett
Family Physician, MD
I received my M.D. from Indiana University in 1997. I completed Family Medicine Residency at Ball Hospital in Muncie, Indiana in 2000. After many years of full time ER work, I started Direct MD Austin in 2014. I am board certified in Family Medicine, and completed functional medicine training with the Kresser’s Institute’s Adapt Practitioner training program November 2021. I am passionate about human health and constantly learning new things and applying them in practice to optimize my own health and that of my clients.
I live in Austin with my wife Jill, our two children, Max and Kate, and various animals. I love great literature (Victor Hugo and Ayn Rand are my favorites), great music, and great art. I have a special interest in the work of Maria Montessori, as well as in snorkeling and scuba diving. I am a saltwater aquarium enthusiast with a soft spot for clownfish.
I founded Direct MD Austin in 2014, and I’m also a proud founding member of the Direct Primary Care Alliance.
